Troubleshooting Guide
Listed below are the most commonly asked questions regarding the operation of our Napco Magnum Alert home security system. Existing customers call TECH SUPPORT at 1-888-All Island or E-mail tech support now for any questions or conditions not listed below concerning any of our home alarm systems.
CONDITION # 1
CONDITION . . . ' P ' IS SHOWING ON THE KEYPAD SCREEN AND KEYPAD IS SOUNDING.
REASON . . . The Code was entered when a window or door was still opened or while standing in front of the motion detector, OR you attempted to arm the alarm system while a trouble condition exists (see various trouble conditions under CONDITION #3).
REMEDY . . . ENTER YOUR CODE AGAIN TO CLEAR THE 'P' AND STOP THE SOUNDER.
CONDITION # 2
CONDITION . . . A 'NUMBER' IS FLASHING ON THE KEYPAD SCREEN. (3 Possibilities)
REASON # 1 . . . The flashing number signifies that a zone that is open. Make sure the door is shut completely. If it is a window make sure that the bottom half as well as the top half of the window is fully closed. If it is a motion detector make sure no one is in it's path. If the green status light is flashing and the door or window is closed, the contact switch could be faulty.
REMEDY . . . CLOSE THAT DOOR OR WINDOW. STAY OUT OF THE LINE OF SIGHT OF THE MOTION DETECTOR WHILE ARMING THE ALARM SYSTEM.
REASON # 2 . . . The alarm system had recently been tripped and the flashing number signifies the zone that was tripped.
REMEDY . . . PRESS AND HOLD DOWN THE '9' RESET BUTTON UNTIL THE SCREEN IS CLEARED.
REASON # 3 . . . If all the doors and windows are closed and the 'Green Status Light' is flashing as well as a number, the motion detector or window or door contact could be defective.
REMEDY . . . CALL 1-888-ALL ISLAND TO SCHEDULE A SERVICE CALL.

CONDITION # 3
CONDITION . . . ALL 3 LIGHTS (red, green, yellow) ON THE KEYPAD ARE FLASHING IN ADDITION TO THE FOLLOWING NUMBER...
FLASHING #1 ON DISPLAY . . . This signifies a POWER FAILURE. Our transformer is possibly unplugged from the wall outlet. Or the outlet that our transformer is plugged into is out of service possibly due to a blown fuse or circuit breaker.
FLASHING #2 ON DISPLAY . . . This signifies a LOW BATTERY. If your power was temporarily out or our transformer was unplugged from the wall outlet or the outlet that our transformer is plugged into was out of service the back up battery will power the system. It should power the alarm system for about 12 hours. When power is restored it will take a couple of hours for the battery to recharge. If it doesn't recharge within 6 hours, you may require a new battery. The battery needs to be replaced approximately every 3 or 4 years.
FLASHING #3 ON DISPLAY . . . This signifies a COMMUNICATOR FAILURE. Your alarm system tried to communicate with the Central Station but the call did not get through. Call 1-888-ALL ISLAND to schedule a service call.
FLASHING #8 ON DISPLAY . . . This signifies a problem with your existing telephone line. Check with your telephone company to see if your telephone line is in proper working order.
REMEDY . . . FOR ALL CONDITIONS, PRESS AND HOLD DOWN THE '9' RESET BUTTON UNTIL THE SCREEN IS CLEARED. THE SOUNDER WILL SILENCE BUT THE FLASHING NUMBER MAY REAPPEAR UNTIL THE PROBLEM IS RESOLVED.
PLEASE NOTE 1: THE ABOVE TROUBLE CONDITIONS APPEAR UPON DISARMING THE ALARM SYSTEM. PLEASE NOTE 2: FOR EARLIER MODELS 1008 AND 1016, YOU MUST PRESS AND HOLD DOWN THE 'DISPLAY STATUS' KEY TO DETERMINE THE FLASHING NUMBER.

CONDITION # 4
CONDITION . . . THE CODE DID NOT DISARM THE ALARM SYSTEM AND STOP THE SIREN.
REASON . . . The Keypad is not as sensitive as your touch tone telephone. If you enter your code and the alarm system does not disarm, STAND BACK and count 5 FULL SECONDS before entering the code again. This alarm system has a built in 'lock out' feature and assumes an unauthorized user is attempting to disarm the alarm system if there isn't a pause between entries.
REMEDY . . . ENTER YOUR CODE AGAIN SLOWLY AND FIRMLY.

CONDITION # 5
CONDITION . . . SMOKE DETECTOR ALARM IS SOUNDING.
REASON . . . A smoke condition exists or possibly the steam from a shower could have tripped the alarm. Construction in the home, including painting can damage the smoke detector if it was not covered.
REMEDY . . . ENTER YOUR CODE 2 TIMES IN A ROW TO STOP THE LOUD ALARM. IF THERE IS A 'P' SHOWING ON THE SCREEN ENTER YOUR CODE ONLY 1 TIME. WHEN THE SMOKE OR STEAM IS CLEARED, PRESS AND HOLD THE '9' RESET BUTTON TO STOP THE SOUNDER. IF NO SMOKE CONDITION EXISTS CALL 1-888-ALL-ISLAND TO SCHEDULE A SERVICE CALL.

CONDITION # 6
CONDITION . . . CHANGING THE USER CODE.
STEP 1 . . . Press and hold down the '8' button for 3 seconds, until you hear a beep.
STEP 2 . . . Immediately enter the 'USER PROGRAM CODE'. (Call 1-888-ALL ISLAND if you do not know it) The keypad lights will flash and the sounder will beep. You are now in the programming mode.
STEP 3 . . . Press the 'A' (Bypass) button. Do not hold it down.
STEP 4 . . . Press the '1' button to place a code in position one. You have up 5 positions for up to 5 different user codes.
STEP 5 . . . Enter your new code. It can be 3 or 4 digits. Do not use a '0'. Do not begin with a '9'.
STEP 6 . . . Press the 'A' (Bypass) button 2 times in a row to exit programming.

CONDITION # 7
CONDITION . . . REPLACING THE BACK UP BATTERY.
STEP 1 . . . Locate the Control Panel (not the keypad) which is usually installed in the basement or in a first floor closet.
STEP 2 . . . Open the door on the Control Panel (it is secured by a screw on the lip of the door). Unplug the RED and BLACK leads from the back up battery. Remove the battery.
STEP 3 . . . Replace with the new battery. Plug the RED lead onto the RED terminal of the battery. Plug the BLACK lead onto the BLACK terminal of the battery. Press and hold down the '1' button until the siren is activated and then let go. The battery may need an hour to come up to charge.
STEP 4 . . . Close the Control Panel door and replace the screw.
PLEASE NOTE: FOR EARLIER MODELS 1008 AND 1016, THE TRANSFORMER MUST BE UNPLUGGED WHEN REPLACING BATTERY.
